Destiny Christian Academy

Destiny Christian Academy was founded in 2005 as an affiliate of St. Paul’s Baptist Church in Henrico County. The 47 acre campus in Northeast Henrico County includes classroom space, a computer lab, chapel space, a performing arts center, and a gymnasium. The facility also houses a development center for before-and-after school care. Destiny Christian Academy is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International. The school currently has two teachers and enrolls four students. Given its small size, The Destiny Christian Academy offers a low student/teacher ratio.

Destiny Christian Academy prides itself on being able to maintain high academic standards and to meet the spiritual needs of its students. The academy states that its core values are the Bible, Christ, Children, Character, and Excellence. It describes its mission as to “ Minister to the spiritual, academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of children and families, Educate children in Christian principles based on the Holy Bible, Promote academic excellence, and Encourage/empower each child to reach their full potential . ”

The education process includes four terms per year with four one-week camps that include topics in fine arts, stock market, media and foreign language. Destiny Christian Academy uses the Bob Jones curriculum, which was originally developed in 1979 for grades K5 through 12 and is widely used by homeschooling insitutions. Each subject is biblically integrated in this curriculum. There are student textbooks and teachers editions in all the core subjects and grade levels. The Bob Jones University website describes the curriculum in the following way:

Standing for the “old-time religion”, Bob Jones University Press has made a name for itself with their commitment to traditional Christian beliefs and strong academic standards. Engagingly comprehensive, newly updated, and always grounded in Scripture, Bob Jones homeschool curriculum has educated thousands of students who have gone on to later success. Their comprehensive teachers’ guides give mothers a helping hand with detailed lesson instructions and answer keys, while their student textbooks contain a wealth of colorful photographs, illustrations, graphs and content that fully integrates a biblical worldview with academic life.

Students are required to wear the school uniform. The school offers a breakfast, lunch, and snack program
