The World Religions & Spirituality Project (WRSP) is funded through a project endowment. The objective of establishing an endowment is to insure continuity for the project and to assure its ongoing legacy as a unique resource for scholars and others interested in contemporary religious and spiritual groups, particularly alternative and emerging groups, around the globe. Religion and spirituality continue to be critical organizing forms in the emerging global order. Because the number and diversity of religious and spiritual groups continues to expand, new forms of religious and spiritual organization continue to appear, and rapid group change is commonplace, resources to support publication of new entries and updates on existing entries are critical to the success of the project mission. Annual interest generated by the endowment will be used both to maintain the project and develop new project initiatives.
WRSP is incorporated in the State of Virginia, U.S. In 2021, WRSP was granted 501(c)3 status as a charitable organization by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.
