Dr. Jane Hurst conducted field research with the Soka Gakkai from 1973-1992 in Philadelphia, Cleveland, Boston and Washington, DC. She has taught at Temple University, Central Michigan University, The University of Virginia, and in sign language at Gallaudet University, serving as chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion 2000-2010. In her retirement she researches slavery in America, sings in several choirs, and works as a hospice volunteer.
