Angela Rudert is Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Ithaca College. She received a BA in Religion from Davidson College, MA in Asian Studies from Cornell University and PhD in Religion from Syracuse University. Her first book, Shakti’s New Voice: Guru Devotion in a Woman-led Spiritual Movement (2017), examines gender activism, religious pluralism and new media in the community surrounding Anandmurti Gurumaa, a prominent, globetrotting Indian guru. Rudert’s ethnographic research in India for Shakti’s New Voice was supported by FLAS and Fulbright-Hays fellowships. Current interests involve religious traditions of South Asia (in India and in North America); religious pluralism; Hinduism; Sikhism; gender; guru traditions; yoga; and globalization.
