New Deliverance Evangelistic Church

New Deliverance Evangelistic Church was founded in 1995 by Gerald Glenn, who serves as the church’s senior pastor. Glenn states that he was inspired by his creator’s vision and felt it necessary to act upon his instructions. He reports that he then consulted with spiritual counselors and peers to make sure he would be doing the right thing. He relied upon a very strong and supportive family, along with 20 members who attended the first organizational meeting on December 16, 1995. Over 800 potential parishioners gathered at George Whyte High School, which became the temporary location for the new church. The church grew rapidly and reached a membership of over 300 the first year. Land was subsequently purchased on Turner Road that became the church’s new home. Church membership is approximately 1,200 parishioners and is predominantly African American.

New Deliverance Evangelistic Church is associated with twenty other congregations from Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, and Maryland. The New Deliverance Fellowship Conference of Churches (NDFCC) is a non-denominational organization that helps specific congregational units with matters such as networking, advocacy, support, and ministry advancement. Bishops and qualified individuals assist in mentoring and training of independent leaders seeking support in starting a church or building their current church.

There is a regular worship service late on Sunday mornings. The church also hosts Deliverance in Focus on WREJ 1540 AM in the mornings. New Deliverance sponsors an Evangelism Ministry in which members visit prisons, people in the community, as well residents of nursing homes. The church states that the purpose of these services is to include people in the word of God whether or not they are able to attend service. Five hundred church members participated in a protest again the World Church of the Creator, a white supremacist group in 2002.
