Markus Altena Davidsen is University Lecturer in the Sociology of Religion at Leiden University, The Netherlands. His research focuses on fiction-based religions and identity movements, and for his doctoral dissertation, “The Spiritual Tolkien Milieu: A Study of Fiction-based Religion” (2014), he received the Gerardus van der Leeuw Dissertation Award from the Dutch Association for the Study of Religion. He is editor of the book Narrative and Belief: The Religious Affordance of Supernatural Fiction (Routledge 2018).
