Joshua D. Hendrick is an assistant professor of sociology and global studies at Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, MD where he teaches courses on political and economic development, human rights, Islamic political identity, and social theory. Dr. Hendrick earned his PhD in sociology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2009 and his M.A. is socio-cultural anthropology from Northern Arizona University in 2001. He received a B.A. in anthropology and a B.A. in religious studies from the University of Georgia in 1999. His intellectual interests are in the fields of political sociology, globalization and development studies, the sociology of religion, and social movement studies with a methodological focus in qualitative research. Dr. Hendrick has conducted field research focuses on social and political change in modern Turkey, and on the formation of Turkish-Islamic political identity. In addition to a number of refereed journal articles and book chapters, Dr. Hendrick is the author of the book titled, Gülen: The Ambiguous Politics of Market Islam in Turkey and the World, 2013, New York University Press.
