Carl Young

Carl Young is an Associate Professor at the Department of History at Western University, London, Ontario, Canada.  He specializes in modern Korean history, especially the interaction of religion and social movements, as well as imperialism and colonialism in East Asia.  His book, Eastern Learning and the Heavenly Way (2014) deals with the development of the Tonghak and Ch’ŏndogyo religious movements in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and their interactions with Korean nationalism and Japanese imperialism in the last years of Korean independence.
