Emily Baran

Emily Baran is Associate Professor in History at Middle Tennessee State University. Her research examines the shifting contours of dissent and freedom in the Soviet Empire and its successor states, particularly for marginal religious communities. Her publications include the first comprehensive history of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Soviet Union, Dissent on the Margins: How Jehovah’s Witnesses Defied Communism and Lived to Preach About It (Oxford University Press, 2014).
