Resurrection Life Christian Center

Prior to founding the Resurrection Life Christian Center, Minister Nathan Mitchell established the New Creation Christian Center in San Antonio, Texas and served as pastor of a church in Orlando, Florida. In 1995 he reports that he had a calling for his Lord to start a ministry in Richmond, VA. Twelve years after this calling, he moved to Richmond, and Mitchell and his wife established the Resurrection Life Christian Center was established in October, 2007. Resurrection Life Christian Center is a non-denominational, Bible-based church. The number of members is small, and about ten to twenty members attend services each week. While the church is multi-cultural, membership is predominantly African-Americans between 7 and 45 years-old. The church is trying to reach more college age individuals since it is located adjacent to Virginia Commonwealth University. The church describes itself as committed to resurrecting “the spirits of people who have been hurt in church, family, or outside world. It is intended as a safe place without judgment.” The motto of the church is “to preach the bible, have people live again and let them know they are welcome into the family of Christ.”

The main church service is on Sunday morning and runs nearly two hours. Prior to that service a prayer meeting is held. The emphasis in the Sunday morning service is on worship and music. The music incorporates a mixture of styles, but has its roots in gospel music. A Bible study is held on one evening during the week. The Bible study’s purpose is to provide an opportunity for members to talk about real life issues and give real biblical answers. After the bible study, food is provided by the church. One evening each month the Resurrection Life Christian Center holds Fire Side Chats, which are designed to allow students to discuss different religious topics of common interest. On other Fridays, Resurrection Life Christian Center has a special service for college age students. Special musical guest and/or speakers will come and perform.

The mission of Resurrection Life Christian Center is to go beyond the church walls and reach people in the community. The church has thrown pool parties and ice cream socials for local members of the community. The church partners with the Richmond Police Department and McGruff, the crime dog. During Thanksgiving members give out Turkeys to all who attend the church service. Resurrection Life Christian Center believes in reaching people where they are, and therefore it is important for the church to be a part of the community.
